FAQs

Frequently asked quesitons

DOES IT HURT?

You will not experience pain with acupuncture. You may experience warmth, heaviness, tingling, or other sensations in and around the needle site.

HOW MANY NEEDLES WILL I GET?

The number of needles depends on what we’re working on. But, generally speaking, we use about 10 needles per treatment.

WHERE DO YOU PLACE THE NEEDLES?

The needles are placed into strategic points on your body to stimulate circulation, calm the nervous system, and have effects on various organs and tissues. Most of the points are on the forearms, lower legs, lower back or abdomen.

IS THERE ANY BLEEDING OR RISK OF INFECTION?

There is no bleeding. Unlike hypodermic needles (used for injections and to draw blood), acupuncture needles don’t cut you and are much finer. And, they are sterile and disposable so there’s no risk of infection.

HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TREATMENT?

You will most likely come for treatment once a week to start off. For more serious conditions – like significant chronic pain – we might recommend twice a week initially.

HOW LONG WILL I HAVE TO KEEP COMING?

Our goal is to get results efficiently and quickly so you don’t need continual follow-up. Usually you’ll have weekly sessions for about 4-8 weeks or so. Then, the time interval between treatments will increase as your recovery is established.

DO I NEED TO DO ANYTHING TO PREPARE FOR TREATMENT

No, although we do recommend that you don’t wear make up or perfume for your treatment

ONCE I HAVE FINISHED MY COURSE OF TREATMENTS, IS THAT IT?

Following a course of acupuncture treatment, an occasional top up session can be almost entirely preventative in nature. So, it is highly beneficial to give your body’s fundamental energy freeway an occasional retune to keep it in harmony. Rather like your car, you benefit from a regular ‘MOT’ to ensure that no problems crop up.
